CSS Lesson 3
1. Using a pixel font size is most closely related to using a font size in which Microsoft program?
Microsoft Word
2. Why are ems considered best practice?
Ems work in aqll internet browsers, pixels only work in internet Explorer.
3. Put these font sizes into ems: 70px, 36px, 10px
70px=4.375em, 36px=2.25em, 10px=0.625em
4. Practice using ems with both a subheading and a body paragraph. Take a screenshot of both the CODE and RUN.
5. What are the four link states? How will you remember them (and their order)?
The four link states are a:link, a:visited, a:hover, and a:active. LoVe HAt
6. Practice using these states by styling them with color, declarations, and backgrounds. Take a screenshot of both the CODE and RUN.
7. Go ahead and find a cursor that works for you and demonstrate your mastery of this code by taking a screenshot of RUN. <— It won’t show up in a screenshot, but I do want to see the code.
8. Review the CSS background section. Do not get too technical here. I’ve always wanted my background to stretch to all screen sizes and now there’s an easy way to accomplish this. Use this link and copy the first example. Find a background picture and take a screenshot of both the CODE and RUN to show me that it works.

CSS Lesson 2
1. What is the difference between a system font and a web font? Why would you rather use a web font?
A system font is basic, with no tails. Style font may be different. 2. Which type of font should you use within your body text? Explain. Where could you use the other type of font? You should use a system font, it will be easier to read and less straining on the eyes. |
CSS Lesson 1
1. What is CSS? How is it different from HTML?
CSS is a kind of coding that stands for cascading style sheets. It is different from HTML in that it has a style section, which HML does not have. 2. Show me your own example of CSS Syntax with each part labeled (what they are called). You can take a picture from your notes, write it out in Notepad++, Paint, or Word. The method is up to you. 3. Screenprint an ID and Class selector in both CODE and RUN. 4. What are the three ways to insert CSS? Which one will we be using the most in class?Screenprint a CSS comment tag that answers this question: Why is the sky blue? |

Essay Tips
There are many different elements to writing a good essay. We were told to pick our favorite that makes us write the best. The tip I picked out to be the most helpful is making good decisions and sticking to a point.
Going from having a partner last year to now working as an individual is a totally different experience. Doing everything on your own is a lot harder than diving up the work evenly between two people. Being alone you get to choose when and how everything is going to get done, so you have to manage your time wisely. This outcome was a lot more rewarding because of the fact that you go through the tutorials and watch the videos, but do not know how it will actually come out until we do it ourselves. I did enjoy being independent and watching eve thing by myself, but I do like how interactive the intro class is. I think meeting somewhere in the middle will benefit both sides.
To me, this is most important because i tend to get off topic when writing a paper. I have a hard time finding the big picture of some things, so keeping on topic will help me with the layout of my papers.

Guided Edit & Tools
Today, we learned more editing tools in Photoshop Elements 9. We were introduced to tools such as spot healing, which can be used to get rid of unwanted small details in a picture. We also learned how to edit specific layers in a picture, which can be helpful in perfecting details and the looks of a picture.
Video Reflection
We are in full swing of learning how to code in this class. When people ask me if coding is hard, i say yes not because of the content itself, but the perseverance and patience to keep coming back to it and not giving up. Coding itself can be complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes just numbers and math, along with remembering code sequences. Getting there can be difficult, but when determined, i think anyone can code a website. I recommend the class to any student, especially considering that a class like this is not offered everywhere.
Index Reflection
Our website has started to be put together. The process for the template was not the easiest or the funnest, but so far i think ours is looking pretty decent. The website has a black, red and white color scheme, with a grey box to put the information in. When you open our website, you are greeted with a large logo at the top of the page, followed by an analysis of our superpowers. My favorite feature of our website is our section headers, i enjoy our super hero names quite a bit. My least favorite part of our website would have to be the logo, it is kinda sloppy and needs to be worked on. Overall, as a work in progress, i give our website an 8 out of 10 rating. We need some work but i'm excited to see how the final product turns out.

Company Logos
My plan of action for drawing my logo is drawing Josh and I on the two sides of the title of out website. We will put our main logo in the middle of the website above the title. We plan on drawing great pictures and then transferring them onto Photoshop.
Color Slide Theory
Photoshop Elements
In class, we used Photoshop Elements 9 for the first time. I was very excited to use Photoshop but i was never sure how to use it. My first experience using Photoshop was very confusing, as learning the layout of the program was not easy. Once i learned all of the quick edits, tools, and filters i can use to edit my pictures, I was not as intimidated as before. After i made my first couple of edits, navigating the program became much easier, and it even became a pretty fun experience. My favorite tool in Photoshop is the quick selection tool, which allows you to take part of a picture and make it black and white (an example is down below). Non-professional photographers often use Photoshop for keeping track of photos, making photos look better, presenting their photos in a creative way and sharing photos with other people. When using quick edit to edit a photo, you can use the auto button, the sliders or the thumbnail previews. To know what the tools do, its best to learn the editing terms, such as saturation, which means absorbing color, or hue, that means color, basically changes the color of the area that you selected. The quick selection tool helps with selecting certain areas, but it can take some time, so i dont think that "quick" is the right name for it, perhaps just selection tool is more appropriate.

MindMap
Superhero
What is your natural super power? Describe something you are good at. Nothing is not a response.
My natural superpower is that i am very adaptable, and learn new things quickly. |
In your own life, share someone you know personally (family member, friend, coach) who has a super power. What is it? Describe!
My mom has the superpower of strength. When adversity hits her, she always finds a way to power through it. |
What are your top 3 favorite super powers from this list? Out of curiosity, who is your favorite mainstream superhero? Why?
My 3 favorite superpowers from this list are time travel, mind control and power mimicry. I feel like these powers would help me most in ordinary day to day life. My favorite superhero is batman because he wasn't gifted with any special abilities, such as the power to fly or super human speed. He does what he does with the abilities that he was dealt with when he was born. |
Using your list from #3, which power would you enjoy the most? Why? What would you do with it to make the world a better place? What would your new superhero YOU look like? Would you wear/hold anything?
If i had to pick a power for the greater good of the world, i would have to pick time travel. Mind control and power mimicry may be cool for me in my own personal life but the power to go back/forward in time can prevent lots of terrible things happening to people by predicting what is to come, or going back to fix something that went wrong. It is likely that i would hold a time traveling device of some sort, a dial on my wrist much like a watch, perhaps. |
Why did you take this course? What is your familiarity level with building websites, coding, photography, and/or graphic design?
I took this course because i am interested in the field of graphic design. I know a lot about basic computer functionality but have little to no experience in the coding/design aspect of the internet. |
